The earcups of the WH-1000XM5 have touch-sensitive controls on the right side that can be used to play, pause and switch tracks. You can also make use of a voice assistant to find content, alter volume and make calls hands-free. The headphones feature a clear stereo image and an even frequency response. They also have an incredibly accurate group delay, which ensures a consistent soundstage. The WH-1000XM5s can be connected to two devices at once. This is particularly useful if you are looking to listen to music on your laptop while making phone calls using your smartphone. They have built-in microphones and a USB-C charge port. They also come with a cable to playback direct analog. The battery lasts for about 30 hours. This can last you a week or even a long trip. Bose QuietComfort 45 The Bose QuietComfort 45, the flagship model of the premium headphones manufacturer, has received the latest version. It was introduced in September 2021 and it is priced lower than the Sony WH1000XM4 by approximately PS320 or $329 or AU$439 compared to its 700-sibling. It offers the best active noise cancellation, and comes with features like voice assistant support with automatic pausing, as well as an automatic pause when you take off the headphones. The design is also much more comfortable than previous models. But there are a few things to know. Some people may be unable to adjust to the touch-sensitive buttons on sides of the earcups, which require pressure to activate. Although some may be disappointed by the omission of some features, such as adjustable ANC/transparency, EQ, and a slight dip in call quality, overall the QC45s are a great option to anyone who wants top-quality ANC at an affordable price. Additionally, the earcups are well-padded, making them extremely comfortable. They're also quite mobile - they fold down and can be stored in their accompanying carrying case, which is an excellent feature. There's a standard set of controls arranged around the right earcup including volume, playback and power/pairing. You can toggle between noise-cancelling mode, neutral mode, and what Shure calls Environment Mode with a slider close to the top. The Environment Mode lets more outside sound to leak through. This is useful when you want to be aware of your surroundings. The controls are great however there's a slight delay between pressing the buttons and what happens (i.e. when you play the play button while you're on a call, you'll likely end up blasting your ears with music, instead of calling up your mom). They don't come with built-in microphones for voice commands support, but they do feature an audio response from Google Assistant and their mics are great at filtering out background noise during phone conversations. They run on one battery that lasts for up to 20 hours, which should be enough for the majority of people. They do come with the USB cable that connects to your phone to charge, which isn't as convenient as using Bluetooth but it's a useful feature to have, and it means you can listen to your music back after charging. They're also compatible with a lot of audio devices that have a 2.5mm port, which means you can use them while you travel. Monoprice BT-600ANC The Monoprice BT600ANC Bluetooth noise cancelling over-ear headphones offer all the features you want in a pair at just a fraction of the cost. The headphones come with premium Qualcomm HD Audio and Active Noise Cancelling. They are also lightweight with a foldable design and are easy to put in bags or backpacks. These headphones are great for commuters and students, since they come with an extremely long-lasting battery that lets you to listen throughout the day long. The headphones also feature convenient touch controls, which allow you to swipe or tap in order to change the volume and skip tracks. The BT-600ANC headsets have an elegant design that is reminiscent of the Monoprice M1000ANC headphones we looked at last year. The headsets are matte gray barely branded, and do not really stand out in the crowd. However, they have an extremely soft and comfortable fit that is ideal to the majority of ears. They have an a little boost between 100-200Hz, which provides a more full sound for bass notes. This is evident in the first track of Good 4 U by Olivia Rodrigo with a clear and clear response. However they have a noticeable drop-off in the higher frequencies above 10kHz so the cymbal or shaker sound won't be as crisp and clear as other headsets. You can switch between three ANC modes that are low, medium and higher. The low setting is great for blocking out most ambient noise, however it will not keep out loud conversations or traffic. The medium setting can be used in most situations. The high setting will keep you insulated from everything except your music. The earcups with touch-sensitive controls can be a bit difficult to operate at first. Swiping upwards and downwards on the pad controls the volume, while tapping the pad or moving it left or right changes tracks.
